Quick answer: Seoul Arena is the city’s first purpose-built K-pop concert venue, rising in Changdong, Dobong District in northern Seoul. A city inspection on August 11, 2026 put construction at 72.5% complete, and opening is targeted for 2027 (reports vary between March and the first half of the year). The main hall is planned for up to 28,000 people, including 18,269 seats. It is not open yet and no concerts are on sale, but if you plan K-pop trips, this is the venue to watch.

What Is Seoul Arena?
Seoul Arena is the centerpiece of a roughly 2.7 trillion won plan to turn Changdong into a “K-entertainment town.” Unlike the Gocheok Sky Dome, which was built for baseball, or the Olympic Park halls, which predate the modern K-pop touring circuit, this venue is designed around concert production from the start. The city has said it expects more than 100 concerts a year, with shops, a cinema, and other commercial space alongside the halls, according to Korea JoongAng Daily’s report on the construction start.
How Big Will It Be?
The plan has two halls. The main arena holds 18,269 seats and can reach about 28,000 with standing floor capacity. A mid-size hall adds room for up to 7,000. For comparison, that puts the main hall between a typical arena show and a stadium show, which is the size many top K-pop groups currently have to split across two nights or book into outdoor stadiums.
When Does It Open?
Treat the opening date as 2027, not yet fixed. Early plans pointed to March 2027, while more recent coverage says the first half of the year. Seoul’s inspection on August 11, 2026 found the site 72.5% complete. First concert lineups and ticketing have not been announced, so do not book flights around a specific show yet. Check back once the opening date and first acts are confirmed.
Where Is Changdong and How Do You Get There?
Changdong sits in the far north of Seoul, in Dobong District. The site is beside Changdong Station, served by Line 1 and Line 4, so most visitors will arrive by subway. Expect roughly 40 to 50 minutes from central areas such as Myeongdong or Seoul Station; check live routing before you go. It is a very different part of the city from the usual tourist base, so factor in the commute home after a late show. Our guide to getting around Seoul covers subway passes and late-night options.
What Should You Do Before It Opens?
Until Seoul Arena opens, K-pop fans still have plenty of shows to plan around. Our fall 2026 Seoul concerts guide lists what is on now, and the LANY Seoul concert guide shows how a typical Kintex show works for visitors. For the culture behind the shows, start with K-pop in Seoul.
Where to Stay
Changdong itself has few tourist hotels. Most fans will be happier staying in central Seoul and taking the subway north on show night. It is worth comparing hotel rates around Seoul🏨 for your dates, or checking availability near the Line 1 and Line 4 corridors🏨 if you want a direct ride to Changdong.
